The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 10 passengers were killed and 11 others injured in a fatal road crash that occurred along the Obajana-Lokoja highway in Kogi State.
According to a statement released on Saturday, the accident happened around 11:30 pm on Friday, October 10, 2025, close to Apamaru Junction, Obajana.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, who described the incident as heartbreaking, urged road users to report reckless driving to the Corps’ toll-free number 122 or approach any highway patrol team nearby. He stressed that public vigilance can help prevent future tragedies.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus with registration number KTG 100YL, carrying 21 male passengers, was involved in the fatal crash. The driver reportedly lost control while attempting a dangerous overtaking maneuver at high speed.
Ten passengers died on the spot, while 11 others suffered serious injuries, including fractures and deep cuts. They were rushed to Fisayo Hospital in Obajana for urgent medical attention.
According to the statement, the remains of the deceased have been handed over to their families for burial in line with Islamic rites at Sarikin Hausawa, Obajana.
“Passengers must take responsibility by reporting reckless drivers through the FRSC toll-free number 122 or the nearest patrol team. Road safety is a shared duty, everyone must play their part to prevent needless deaths,” Corps Marshal Mohammed said.

He lamented the repeated loss of lives on Nigerian highways, blaming most road accidents on speeding, night travel, and careless overtaking.
The Corps Marshal added that the FRSC will intensify road safety campaigns, particularly targeting night driving and overloading.
Assistant Corps Marshal and Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, also reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to reducing road crashes through stronger enforcement and public awareness programs.
