A suspected vandal was electrocuted while attempting to steal parts from a 500KVA transformer substation on Baba Abiye Street, Ede, Osun State.
The incident occurred late Wednesday, and the severely injured suspect was discovered the next morning by a concerned resident, according to a statement from Kikelomo Owoeye, Regional Communication and Branding Officer of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC), Osun Region.
The suspect was quickly taken to Alpha Hospital by police, while another individual believed to be an accomplice was arrested and remains in custody.

IBEDC condemned the act, highlighting the serious risks vandalism poses to lives, public safety, and power supply. The company also praised local residents for their vigilance in reporting the incident promptly.
“Vandalism endangers lives, disrupts electricity supply, and compromises community safety,” the statement said. IBEDC urged the public to report any suspicious activity, including energy theft and equipment tampering, through official channels.
The company reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding electrical infrastructure and maintaining reliable service across its coverage areas.
