Residents of Chatta village in Hawul Local Government Area, Borno State, are grieving the mysterious deaths of four family members.

The victims have been identified as Yakubu Samanja, his wife Esther Yakubu, and their two children, Amos and Maryamu Yakubu.

Locals suspect that toxic fumes from a generator may have caused the tragedy.

A relative, Ibrahim Samanja, revealed that he discovered the bodies on Tuesday morning after attempts to reach the family went unanswered.

“I arrived there around 7 a.m., kept knocking, but there was no response. That made me suspicious, so I forced the door open and found them dead,” he said.

Authorities and health officials were immediately alerted and later confirmed the deaths. The bodies were taken to Marama General Hospital for further examination.

Community members described the loss as heartbreaking, noting that the family showed no prior signs of illness or distress.

Preliminary investigations found no evidence of violence or struggle, supporting the theory that generator fumes might be responsible.

ASP Nahum Daso, spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing to determine the precise cause of death.
