The Mumbai Police Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) has arrested a Nigerian national after recovering 523 grams of cocaine valued at around ₹5.23 crore (₦861,705,887.60) during a dawn operation on Saturday.

Police sources said the raid took place around 4:15 am near Diamond Ayva Hostel on Hansmukh Road, Vakola. Officers reportedly became suspicious when they saw a man loitering on the pavement and decided to approach him. Independent witnesses were invited to the scene before a search was conducted.
Upon inspection, a white nylon bag was discovered in the suspect’s possession, containing a transparent pouch filled with cocaine. A senior officer confirmed that a field test using a chemical detection kit turned light blue, confirming the substance as cocaine.
The suspect, identified as 30 year old Nsude Chimaobi Igwesi, was immediately detained. Police Constable Amol Salunkhe filed a formal complaint, and the Bandra Unit of the ANC registered a case under Sections 8(c) and 21(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

India’s Independent News Agency, IANS, reported on X that the Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti-Narcotics Bandra Unit had arrested Igwesi from Santacruz-Vakola. The post confirmed that tests identified the seized material as cocaine and that investigations are ongoing to uncover the drug’s origin and destination.
Police officials added that further intelligence operations will focus on dismantling the syndicate connected to the contraband.
