Nigeria’s sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan returned to top form on Sunday, claiming her first major win of the 2025 season with a commanding performance in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Diamond League meet in Rabat, Morocco.
The 28-year-old track star blazed through the finish line in a season’s best of 12.24 seconds, shattering the previous meet record of 12.51 seconds held by McNeal Brianna.
Her impressive display not only secured the top spot but also signaled a strong comeback after a slow start to the season.

Amusan had previously placed fourth in back-to-back races at the Xiamen and Shanghai Diamond League meets earlier in May. Before that, she opened her 2025 campaign in March by winning the Velocity Fest 16 in Jamaica, though against a less competitive field.
This latest triumph in Rabat marks a turning point for Amusan after the disappointments of the 2024 season, which saw her fall short of the finals at the Paris Olympics. Determined to bounce back, she began working with the renowned Racers Track Club under Glen Mills, the former coach of sprint legend Usain Bolt.
Reflecting on her Rabat victory, Amusan attributed her improved performance to a renewed focus on hurdles training. “More hurdles practice, because I have been doing more sprinting. It was after the first two Diamond League meetings, I knew I had to go back to doing more hurdle drills,” she explained.
Her win in Morocco not only restores her momentum but also re-establishes her as one of the top contenders in women’s sprint hurdles heading into the heart of the 2025 athletics season.
