Looking into What Went Wrong
After Atziri’s passing, the Michoacán State Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation to see if the right safety steps were in place that day.
Meanwhile, organisers cancelled the rest of the tournament, including the next day’s games, out of respect and worry for everyone’s welfare.
Remembering a Shining Star
Chivas Lcz shared a heartfelt message:
> “The Chivas family is going through its hardest moment as we say goodbye to our beloved Atziri Galeana. You will live on in our hearts—you left an unforgettable mark on your teammates, coaching staff, supporters, and the entire club. Until we meet again to play an even more beautiful final, rest in peace, champion.”

Heatwaves and Athletes: A Growing Danger
Atziri’s death shines a harsh light on how dangerous extreme heat can be—especially for youngsters on the field.
Parts of Mexico have been hit by scorchers nearing 50 °C (122 °F), and in just two weeks, more than 100 people died from the heat.
Experts warn climate change is making these deadly stretches of heat more common.
They’re urging leagues to rethink schedules; play later or earlier when it’s cooler, make sure players stay hydrated, and always have medics close by.
Time to Act
This heartbreaking loss should jolt every school, club and sports body into action.
We must put real, practical rules in place to keep players safe from the rising threat of heat illness.
