A pastor in Plateau State has shared a deeply painful account of how militants murdered seven of his brothers, killed more than 150 members of his congregation, and burnt down his church in a wave of brutal attacks that have left many communities devastated.

Speaking with journalists, the cleric, who pleaded not to be named for security reasons, said his family and church have suffered unimaginable losses at the hands of armed militants who have repeatedly targeted villages in the area.

He revealed that the attacks have continued unabated, with residents living in constant fear of further bloodshed. “Seven of my brothers were killed, and over 150 members of my church were murdered. They didn’t stop there, they burned my church to the ground,” the pastor lamented.

According to him, the attacks were carried out systematically, leaving entire communities displaced and survivors struggling to rebuild their lives. “It’s heartbreaking to see how our people are being wiped out, and the government is doing nothing to stop it,” he added.

The pastor described the violence as part of the larger wave of insecurity that has plagued Plateau and other parts of northern Nigeria for years. He said many families have lost everything; their homes, farms, and loved ones, while the perpetrators continue to operate freely.

He called on both federal and state governments to intervene immediately to prevent further killings. “We are citizens of this country and deserve protection. Our people can no longer sleep at night because of the fear of attacks,” he said.

The cleric also appealed to international human rights organisations to draw attention to the ongoing crisis, warning that many rural communities face extinction if nothing is done soon.

Several local leaders in Plateau have previously raised similar concerns about persistent attacks by armed groups, which they claim are part of a coordinated effort to displace indigenous populations. Despite repeated calls for help, residents say security responses remain slow and inadequate.
