The Osun State Government has announced the appointment of Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, marking a major step in its efforts to transform the state’s sports sector.
The announcement was made by the state’s Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, during a courtesy visit by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun State chapter, to his office.

Adewusi explained that Davido’s appointment is part of the state’s long-term vision under Governor Ademola Adeleke to strengthen sports administration and attract sustainable investment into the sector.
“The government of Governor Adeleke is committed to building a sports culture that will place Osun among the leading sports states in Nigeria. The renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium is ongoing and will soon meet Olympic standards,” Adewusi said.
He further revealed that the government is finalising the establishment of the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the main coordinating body for sports policy, development, and talent management.
According to him, the Sports Trust Fund, chaired by Davido, will provide a framework for private-sector participation, ensuring sustainable funding for athletes, sports facilities, and youth engagement initiatives.
“I am pleased to inform you that the introduction of the Sports Trust Fund will attract financial support from sports philanthropists and partners both within and outside Osun. With Davido leading the initiative, we are confident it will generate massive interest and investment,” Adewusi said.
He noted that Davido’s passion for youth empowerment and global influence in entertainment made him a perfect fit for the role, adding that the singer’s appointment has already generated excitement across the state’s sports community.

“Davido accepted the appointment without hesitation. We believe his leadership will inspire trust, attract funding, and bring international visibility to Osun sports development,” Adewusi added.
The Osun State Government reaffirmed its resolve to complete the renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, promising that the upgraded facility will host national and international competitions once finished.
