Two brothers, Usman and Mohammed Adamu, were on Thursday arraigned before a Kaduna State Magistrates’ Court over allegations of defrauding a man of ₦5.7 million in a fake land transaction.
The prosecution, led by Inspector Chidi Leo, told the court that the case was brought by Buba Yusuf, who lodged a complaint at the Gabasawa Police Station on October 20.

According to the prosecutor, the defendants and one Alhaji Hassan Sani, who is currently at large, approached Yusuf in 2023 with an offer to sell him three plots of land in Malali, Kaduna. Leo explained that the brothers collected ₦5.7 million from Yusuf under the pretext of selling the land, presenting fake offer documents purportedly granting statutory rights of occupancy.
“When the complainant visited the said property, he was stopped by the real owner, who showed proof of ownership. Since then, all efforts to recover the money from the defendants have failed,” Leo said.

The prosecutor stated that the alleged actions of the brothers violated the provisions of the Kaduna State Penal Code (2017) concerning criminal conspiracy and fraud.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, after hearing the case, granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of ₦500,000, with two reliable sureties in the same amount. He ordered that the sureties must be civil servants not below Grade Level 14 and must live within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to November 24 for further hearing.
