Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, says the ongoing peace efforts in the state are gradually restoring unity and creating the foundation for genuine progress.
Governor Fubara made the statement on Saturday at a civic reception organised in honour of the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, held at Government Secondary School, Akabuka, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.

He said he was pleased to see increasing signs of reconciliation and cooperation among political leaders and communities across Rivers State, noting that peace remains the strongest pillar for development.
“We can’t develop in an environment of chaos. We can’t attract any project to Akabuka when there is a problem. Our focus has always been on peace, because it is the only path to progress,” Fubara said.
The governor reflected on the political challenges that rocked the state in recent years but said the return of calm has opened a new phase of collective growth. He noted that political figures who once stood apart now attend public events together, a sign, he said, that “peace has truly returned to Rivers State.”
Fubara announced immediate plans to commence rehabilitation of internal roads and renovation of Government Secondary School, Akabuka, where the event was held.
“As soon as we leave here, the process for assessing the internal roads will start. The Ministry of Education will also inspect this school, and we will act quickly,” the governor promised.
He expressed gratitude to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, for his support during his political journey and acknowledged the contributions of traditional rulers, youths, women, and political leaders for standing together in unity.
In her remarks, Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu said she was deeply touched by the overwhelming show of love and solidarity from her people. She described the colourful ceremony as proof that peace and unity are returning to her community and the entire state.
Odu also appreciated Governor Fubara, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, FCT Minister Chief Nyesom Wike, and former Governor Dr. Peter Odili for their guidance and roles in her career. She highlighted the symbolic 21-cannon salute and the rare appearance of Ebukele, a traditional performance that surfaces once in ten years, as signs of Akabuka’s deep gratitude to the governor.

She described Fubara as “a man of peace who speaks less and acts more,” pledging to continue supporting his administration’s efforts for lasting harmony and growth.
Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Jason Osai, praised Odu as “a delightful personality who has brought honour to Akabuka,” while ONELGA Chairman, Shedrack Ogbogu, said the reception marks the beginning of broader recognition for the deputy governor’s service to the people.
