Police Foil Highway Robbery In Bauchi, One Suspect Killed

The Bauchi State Police Command has thwarted a robbery attempt along the Toro-Jos federal highway during the early hours of Tuesday, June 4, 2025.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the operation followed a distress call received around 3:30 a.m., alerting the police that a group of armed men had barricaded the highway and were forcefully taking valuables from motorists.

“Upon receipt of the report, a team of operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Toro Division in collaboration with auxiliary security forces, immediately mobilised to the scene,” the statement read.

Wakil explained that the security team confronted the criminals, engaging them in a gun battle. Overwhelmed by the police firepower, the robbers fled the scene in different directions.

During the exchange, one of the suspects, a 24-year-old man identified as Abdu Shagari, sustained gunshot wounds. He was later confirmed dead at Toro General Hospital after succumbing to his injuries.

“One of the suspects, identified as 24-year-old Abdu Shagari, was fatally wounded during the encounter. He later succumbed to his injuries and was confirmed dead at Toro General Hospital,” Wakil stated.

His body has since been handed over to the Social Welfare Department in Toro for necessary arrangements.

Items found at the scene included a knife, a stick, two bottles of rubber solution, a flashlight, and two pieces of cigarettes.

The police command assured the public that investigations are underway to locate and arrest the other fleeing suspects.
