300 Shops Destroyed As Fire Ravages Kano GSM Market On Sallah Day

Tragedy struck the popular Farm Center GSM Market in Kano State on Sallah Day as a massive fire outbreak engulfed the area, destroying over 300 shops and properties worth millions of naira.

The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Eid Day at the Dan Sileka section of the market, located in Tarauni Local Government Area.

The inferno caused widespread damage, particularly to businesses dealing in mobile phones and accessories.

Firefighters from the Kano State Fire Service responded promptly and were able to bring the blaze under control before it spread to other parts of the market.

Confirming the incident, the Information Officer of Tarauni LGA, Adamu Iliyasu Hotoro, stated that the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Ahmed Sekure, visited the scene shortly after the fire broke out. Sekure sympathized with affected traders and stressed the need for improved safety measures to prevent future occurrences.

He offered prayers, saying, “May Almighty Allah grant the affected traders patience and replace their losses with something even better.”

Also speaking on the incident, Ambassador Jamilu Bala Gama, Chairman of the Farm Center GSM Traders Association, and the Market Managing Director, Abdula’ziz Usman Mai Tabarma, thanked the council chairman for his quick intervention and support during the crisis. They confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

Both officials commended the swift response of the Kano State Fire Service, praising their efforts in containing the blaze. They also prayed for divine protection and called for increased vigilance to avoid a recurrence of such disasters.

The tragic incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at a private lodge near Royal Kitchen junction, close to the university gate in Awka, Anambra State.
