In a dramatic turn of events, Ini Ememobong, Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Information and Special Duties, has resigned from his position after Governor Umo Eno defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ememobong cited his unwillingness to join the APC, citing his long-standing opposition to the party and belief in politics with principles.
Ememobong’s resignation letter, posted on his Facebook page, reads: “Today, I have tendered my resignation to the Governor in compliance with his directive that his appointees who are unwilling to join him on the political journey to the APC should resign.”

He further explained that his decision is borne out of his belief in politics with principles and his opposition to the APC.
The development follows Governor Eno’s directive to his commissioners and other appointees to defect with him to the APC or resign from their positions.
“Prepare to resign the day I announce that I am moving because you cannot; you are an appointee, and your loyalty is fully to me. You can’t be in my cabinet and play anti-party. It is what it is,” Governor Eno had said.

Ememobong emphasized that his resignation doesn’t alter his personal relationship with Governor Eno, whom he referred to as a brother. “While I cannot question or fault the governor’s personal decision, I am unable to join in that sojourn. My decision is borne out of my belief in politics with principles and my long-standing opposition to that political platform, which is daily validated by numerous Nigerians across many sectors.
