Exercise earlier slated for October 28, 2025, to hold on new date soon.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of the screening of aspirants for its upcoming 2025 Elective National Convention, earlier scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, attributed the postponement to “unforeseen circumstances.”
Fintiri explained that a new date for the exercise would be communicated to all aspirants and members of the party in due course.
“A new date will be communicated once fixed. The NCOC regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement,”
Fintiri stated, adding that “all aspirants and members of our Party should note the foregoing and be guided accordingly.”

He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to conducting a credible, transparent, and hitch-free national convention, describing the postponement as a procedural delay rather than a setback.
The PDP’s national convention, which is expected to elect new national officers, is scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Earlier, the party had appointed a 13-member National Convention Screening Committee chaired by Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, to vet aspirants for various national offices.
However, the postponement comes amid rising internal friction within the opposition party. It follows former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido’s declaration to contest for the position of National Chairman, despite earlier endorsement of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, by northern PDP stakeholders as consensus candidate.
Sources within the party say the endorsement has been rejected by factions loyal to Lamido and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who faulted the process as “lacking proper consultation.”
