Bakare disclosed that the operation was triggered by a distress call from a resident of the area. Upon arriving at the scene, the Amotekun operatives confronted the robbers who attempted to flee in a wine-colored Kia Cerato with registration number KRD 840 JS. The vehicle was traced to one Ariwoola Abiola Wasiu of Ifesowapo Estate, Adunbu, Itori.
Sensing danger, the criminals abandoned the vehicle and escaped into the nearby bush, making away with several valuables including eight high-end mobile phones, two laptops, assorted jewelry, and cash amounting to N54,000.
Bakare stated, “The robbery incident, which left a 28-year-old man, Opeyemi Olusanya, with a gunshot wound to his left limb, occurred around 1:20 a.m. It was foiled by the swift response of the Amotekun team from Ewekoro Command. On arriving the scene, the thieves tried to flee in their Kia Cerato but ran into the bush when they saw our operatives. They escaped with stolen items but left their vehicle behind.”
The recovered car has been handed over to the Itori division of the Nigeria Police, while investigations into the robbery and the suspects’ identities are ongoing.
Bakare affirmed that the operation demonstrates the Ogun State Amotekun Corps’ dedication to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace and order across the state.
