Nigerian actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has raised serious concerns over the absence of proper structure in Nollywood, particularly highlighting the non-payment of residuals to actors.
Taking to Instagram, the seasoned actress compared her experiences in Nigeria’s film industry to that of Hollywood.
Despite a three-decade-long career in Nollywood with over 310 film credits, Omotola revealed that she has never received residual payments—earnings actors receive from reruns or continued distribution of their work.

In comparison, she noted that after just four years of working in Hollywood and participating in only two test projects, she now receives monthly residuals.
She wrote:
“Just 4 years in Hollywood. 2 test projects. Monthly residuals.
30 years in Nollywood. 310+ projects. No residuals. Nollywood needs structure.”
Her post has reignited conversations around the need for reforms in Nollywood, especially in terms of fair compensation, royalties, and long-term benefits for actors.
