The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, has secured a life imprisonment judgment against a 19 year old teacher, Abdullahi Abbass, who was found guilty of sexual abuse and rape of his nine year old male pupil in Abuja.
Justice M. Osho-Adebiyi of the FCT High Court delivered the ruling with no option of fine, sending a clear message that Nigeria will no longer tolerate crimes against children. Abbass taught at a school in Kwali and was the boy’s class teacher. According to court filings, on March 19, 2025, after lessons ended, he sent another pupil to lure the boy out of his home. Abbass then took the child to a nearby street and raped him.

Despite threats from the teacher, the young victim told his mother what happened. The family reported the case, leading to the arrest of Abbass and the eventual transfer of the case to NAPTIP, where prosecution began immediately.
The Director General of NAPTIP, Binta Bello, described the judgment as a milestone in the fight against sexual crimes. She stated that a life imprisonment punishment reflects the seriousness of the offence and acts as a strong deterrent to other offenders. According to her, Abbass’s name will be entered into the national Sex Offenders Register.

Bello thanked the Nigeria Police for working closely with NAPTIP to ensure the investigation was thorough and swift. She praised the judiciary for handling the case with urgency, adding that the agency has strengthened its Violence Against Persons Prohibition Department to ensure faster response to cases of sexual abuse and domestic violence.
For NAPTIP, each conviction is not just a win for the law, it is a step toward restoring safety and dignity to children across Nigeria.
