Jubilation in Ifo as Police Nab Armed Robbery Kingpin, Recover Pistol

There was wild jubilation in Ifo, Ogun State, after operatives of the Ogun State Police Command arrested the leader of a notorious armed robbery syndicate that had long terrorised residents across several communities.

The operation, conducted around 12:40 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Oloshe area, led to the arrest of Lekan Annuoluwapo (32) and his female accomplice, Ajoke Kareem (33).

According to police sources, the suspects had been linked to multiple robberies in Agosi, Old Bank Area, Olomu Road, Oju-Sango, Folam, Oloshe Road, Ikorita, and Ajowa, all within Ifo Local Government Area.

Investigations revealed that on October 17, the gang attacked a woman sweeping a church premises and robbed her of her handbag. Again, on October 25, they struck and shot a victim who raised alarm, escaping with valuables including a mobile phone, POS machine, and power bank.

Further intelligence led to the arrest of Akpomoka Gabriel a.k.a. Akuru (36) of Ogba-Iyo, Ijoko-Ota, who was identified as Annuoluwapo’s main accomplice. His capture triggered jubilation in Ifo as residents hailed the police for restoring peace and confidence in the area.

Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, commended his men for their gallantry and directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and prosecution.

He also ordered enhanced patrols across Ifo and Sango-Ota throughout the Ember Months to curb criminal attacks and maintain public safety.

In a statement signed by CSP Omolola Odutola (anipr), the Police Public Relations Officer, the Command reaffirmed its commitment to mopping up illegal arms and dismantling organised criminal networks across Ogun State.

“Ogun State will remain unsafe for criminals and their collaborators,” Odutola said.
