Former presidential candidate and Human Right Activist, Omoyele Sowore, has warned that Nigeria cannot continue pretending to be one united country when some citizens are treated as if they do not belong.
Speaking in Akure during the end-of-year gathering of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ondo State chapter, Sowore said the country is held together by “systemic hypocrisy,” arguing that no nation built on oppression can genuinely speak of unity.

“We cannot have unity without justice,” he said. “You can’t talk about unity when some people are treated as superior and others as inferior. How can you claim unity when someone’s business is demolished simply because of their ethnicity?”
He accused the government of double standards in handling security matters, adding that terrorists receive better treatment than freedom fighters. Sowore openly referenced the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, saying keeping him for over five years without clearly stating his offense shows the depth of Nigeria’s injustice.
“There is no crime in demanding justice or self-determination,” Sowore said. “Nigeria was not created by Nigerians. If we must remain as one country, everyone must be treated equally.”
The activist criticized the political class for ignoring the grievances of citizens until foreign countries publicly embarrass them. He warned that inviting foreign powers to intervene would only worsen the nation’s problems.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has declared Sowore wanted, accusing him of planning to obstruct major roads in Lagos. Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh announced the development near the Third Mainland Bridge.
Reacting, Sowore described the action as an attempt to silence him, saying he has repeatedly tried to contact the commissioner but his calls were ignored. He maintained that the police are twisting events to frame him.
