President Bola Tinubu has ordered an immediate overhaul of the police training facilities used by the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other internal security agencies. The President expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the institutions, saying they do not reflect the nation’s security needs or his vision for a stronger economy.

The directive was made public during an inspection visit to training centers in Lagos by Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, who chairs the National Economic Council (NEC) ad-hoc committee on the upgrade of Nigeria’s security training institutions.

Governor Mbah was joined by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; former Inspector General of Police, Alkali Usman Baba; and Assistant Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu. He explained that Tinubu gave the committee a 30-day deadline to carry out assessments and submit a comprehensive report to NEC for implementation.

According to Mbah, the President made it clear during the NEC meeting held on October 23 that the current state of the security training facilities does not support his economic agenda. Tinubu reportedly stated that the plan to grow Nigeria’s economy to one trillion dollars in five years requires well-trained and well-equipped security officers capable of protecting investments, citizens, and critical infrastructure.

Mbah emphasized that improved training, modern equipment, and upgraded facilities are essential if Nigeria wants to tackle rising security challenges and encourage investor confidence.

He added that the inspection is not a mere formality but part of a full restructuring plan that will ensure Nigeria’s internal security training institutions meet global standards.
