The President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Francis Wale Oke, has declared that a full-scale Christian genocide is underway in Nigeria and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to collaborate with U.S. President Donald Trump to end the crisis.

Addressing journalists on Friday in Ibadan, Oyo State, Bishop Oke said the scale of killings and abductions of Christians across the country has reached alarming proportions, insisting that “there is no other name to call it than genocide.”

He recalled that former U.S. President Donald Trump had once classified Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over the systematic persecution of Christians, vowing at the time to take decisive measures.

According to Oke, incidents such as the murder of Deborah Samuel, the abduction of Leah Sharibu and the Chibok girls, as well as recurrent attacks in Benue, Taraba, Southern Kaduna, Owo, Niger, and Plateau states, point to an organised attempt to annihilate Christians.

“There is Christian genocide in Nigeria. There is no other name to call it. No Christian group is attacking Muslims. The patience of the church is being stretched,” Oke declared.

The cleric, however, clarified that the violence was being perpetrated by extremist groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP, not by the wider Muslim community.

He commended Trump for his previous intervention but advised that diplomacy and cooperation, rather than confrontation, should define relations between both leaders.

“President Tinubu should ask for the cooperation of President Trump instead of opposing him. The President should root out radical groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP. Work together so Nigerians can live in peace,” he said.

Bishop Oke further urged the federal government to fulfill its constitutional responsibility of protecting all Nigerians regardless of faith, warning that continued political inaction could deepen the crisis.

“Government should stand up and not play politics with it. President Tinubu and the federal government need to cooperate with Trump to deal with this cancer,” he added.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu is said to be in ongoing consultations with religious leaders over Trump’s renewed warning to take direct action against terrorists operating in Nigeria.
