The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victory at the polling unit of former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, in Saturday’s governorship election.
The result, announced at Polling Unit 019, Agulu Ward 11, Anaocha Local Government Area, showed the APC candidate, Hon. Nicholas Ukachukwu, polling 73 votes, while the Labour Party’s George Moghalu came second with 57 votes. The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) followed with 38 votes.

The figures, confirmed by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials around 3 p.m., have generated widespread reactions within political circles, given Obi’s long-established influence in Anambra politics, especially in Agulu, his hometown.
During the 2023 presidential election, Obi achieved a landslide victory across Anambra State, winning over 95 percent of the total votes and dominating nearly all polling units. His loss in his home polling unit is now being viewed by analysts as a significant indicator of changing voter dynamics and the growing foothold of opposition parties in the South-East region.
Despite leading the campaign efforts for the Labour Party candidate ahead of the election, results from his polling unit have intensified discussions about the declining momentum of the “Obidient” political wave in Anambra politics.
