- Alex Iwobi faces online criticism after posting a hotel-view video ahead of the World Cup qualifier.
- Some fans say the Super Eagles star showed poor judgement before the crucial match.
- Journalists call for stricter social media rules from the NFF to avoid distractions.
- Iwobi later clarified that he was only enjoying the view and meant no controversy.
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi stirred controversy online after sharing a short video showing the view from his hotel in Morocco, where the national team is camped for their World Cup qualifier. The clip, which showed an old and unattractive building near the hotel compound, generated mixed reactions on social media.
Some Nigerians directed their anger at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), calling the incident another example of administrative incompetence. But many others felt Iwobi should have shown better judgement, especially at such a critical moment for the team.

A Paris-based journalist, OJB, criticised Iwobi’s timing: “With over 85 caps for Nigeria and arguably the most experienced player in the squad, Iwobi should know better. Posting videos like that before such important games is poor judgement,” he said.
Another media personality, Oga Nla Media, reposted a clip in which former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh condemned the misuse of social media by national players. He argued that the NFF must enforce strict rules to avoid distractions in camp.
A concerned fan wrote: “That childish video from Iwobi created unnecessary drama. I hope the players are restricted from posting until the job is done.”
Others accused the midfielder of “demarketing” Rabat, with comments suggesting that he should be fined for posting the video.

The Super Eagles media officer released a statement clarifying the situation. According to him, the players are staying at Rive Hotel, chosen because of its proximity to the stadium and training ground. He explained that what was captured in the viral video was simply an old building visible from one of the hotel windows.
Iwobi later posted another video, saying he was merely enjoying the view and never intended to complain or ridicule the facility. He added that the clip was being blown out of proportion.
