“For the avoidance of doubt, Regina Daniels was born on 10 October 2000,” he said. “If we have been married for six years, then everyone can do the maths, she was 19, not 17. Her mother personally handed her over to me. I did not chase after her.”

He said Nigerians witnessed the traditional marriage ceremony and that nothing was hidden.

Nwoko also alleged that Regina is being manipulated by people who want to use her to score political points.

“She has previously admitted to struggling with drug use and bipolar medication. Her medical records exist,” he said. “Those using her current vulnerability to push lies are simply enemies of progress.”

He described the ongoing rumours online as “criminal defamation” and insisted that if Regina had anything truthful or damaging to expose, she would have done so.

Nwoko reiterated that his marriage followed cultural and traditional expectations.

“Our customs do not forbid polygamy,” he stated. “I married her honourably, legally, and with dignity.”

He said that Regina was a major part of his life and that he treated her with affection and respect.

“My world revolved around Regina,” he said. “Everyone who has worked with me knows how much I cared for her.”

Linking the controversy to politics, Nwoko claimed there is a “syndicate” trying to weaken his influence, especially now that he is a serving senator.

“This witch-hunt has been ongoing for years,” he said. “The goal is to discredit me and stop the development work I am doing.”

Speaking on past accusations, including land grabbing, Nwoko said the land was legally allocated to him for the establishment of the University of Sports and that the institution already benefits the community.

He accused some individuals of taking advantage of Regina’s current emotional state to fuel their agenda.

“They are exploiting a young woman who needs help,” he said. “If there was anything illegal, she would have said it by now. There is nothing to expose.”

Nwoko ended by saying he is focused on his work and that those spreading lies will eventually face justice.
