• PDP sabotage, failure to campaign as reasons for suspension
• SEC says candidate got only one vote in his ward
• NWC notified for further disciplinary action
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has suspended its governorship candidate in the just-concluded election, Mr. Jude Ezenwafor, over what it described as gross misconduct, sabotage, and poor performance at the polls.
The decision followed a State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held at the party’s office in Awka on Tuesday, where members reviewed the outcome of the November 8, 2025 governorship election.

Announcing the resolution, the state chairman of the PDP, Mr. Chidi Chidebe, said the suspension, which takes effect immediately, would last for one month pending further disciplinary measures.
In a statement signed by Mr. Chidi Chidebe, the SEC noted that Ezenwafor’s conduct throughout the campaign was “uncooperative and destructive to the collective interest of the party.”
According to Chidebe, the candidate failed to campaign in any ward or local government area and allegedly conspired with candidates of other political parties to undermine the PDP’s chances.
“It is on record that the governorship candidate secured only one vote in his own ward, Nnobi Ward 3, Idemili South Local Government Area, out of 12 polling units. This abysmal performance represents the worst result for PDP in any ward across the state,” the statement read.
The SEC further accused Ezenwafor of establishing a “parallel gang of impostors” — non-members of the PDP — to unlawfully perform party functions, adding that his activities destabilised the campaign structure.

Following deliberations, the PDP resolved to:
- Suspend Mr. Jude Ezenwafor from the party for one month.
- Refer him to the State Disciplinary Committee for investigation and recommendations.
- Notify the National Working Committee (NWC) to deny him or his collaborators further access or recognition.
Despite the setback, the party said it would not challenge the election result in court, pledging instead to rebuild and reposition its structure under the leadership of Amb. Umar Damagum.
Ezenwafor’s poor showing saw the PDP place fourth with 1,401 votes, behind APGA’s Chukwuma Soludo (422,664 votes), APC’s candidate (99,445 votes), and the Labour Party (10,505 votes).
The state executive reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, discipline, and unity, stressing that party loyalty must remain paramount as it begins post-election reforms.
