The family of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad, has issued a statement directing his widow, Wunmi, to immediately stop using the ‘Aloba’ surname and to conduct a DNA test to determine the paternity of her son, Liam.

The announcement was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Head of the Aloba family, Adedara Aloba, and the Principal Member, Joseph Aloba, on Monday. According to the family, the decision was made to ensure that the truth surrounding the late singer’s affairs is uncovered and justice is served.

To establish a lawful structure for the management of Mohbad’s estate, the family appointed three administrators, Samuel Ajewole Aloba, Engr. Ayodele Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Mrs. Alonge Ibukun Oluwaseun Aloba. They will oversee all assets belonging to the late singer, including bank accounts, royalties, properties, and musical rights.

The family further explained that a position has been reserved for Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, in the estate’s administration, but only if a court-ordered DNA test confirms that her son is biologically linked to Mohbad.

“These administrators have been directed to immediately apply for Letters of Administration from the Probate Registry to legally manage all assets, including royalties and intellectual property,” the statement read.

“For clarity, no statutory or traditional marriage took place between the late Mohbad and Wunmi, as the necessary Yoruba marriage rites, including the payment of bride price, were never completed. While an introduction was held, it does not constitute a lawful marriage under Yoruba custom,” the family added.

They further emphasized that until paternity is legally established, Wunmi must stop using the ‘Aloba’ name in both private and public matters. However, the family promised to recognize both mother and child once the DNA results are confirmed.

In addition, the family appointed Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq. of Ogungbe & Ogungbe Attorneys as their official legal representative in all estate and DNA-related matters. Prominent lawyer Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, will continue representing the family in communications with law enforcement and investigative authorities concerning Mohbad’s death.

The family concluded by stating that a new burial date and memorial plans for the late singer will be announced once all legal and internal issues, particularly the DNA case, have been resolved.
