- Lagos Police confirm autopsy and toxicology results in the Akingboye murder investigation.
- Seven family members are now back in custody as the case takes a new turn.
- A suspicious ₦50m transfer remains a key lead in the ongoing murder probe.
- Police await DPP advice to file charges against anyone linked to Akingboye’s death.
The Lagos State Police Command says it is ready to move to the next stage of prosecuting those linked to the death of former SDP governorship candidate, Bamidele Akingboye, as investigators now await official guidance from the Department of Public Prosecution.
Speaking to reporters, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olorundare Jimoh, confirmed that detectives had received the full autopsy and toxicology reports conducted earlier in September. According to him, the new findings prompted the re-arrest of seven out of the fourteen family members initially invited for questioning.

He explained that the toxicology report completed on September 11 gave investigators fresh direction. “We now await DPP advice so prosecution can begin against anyone found culpable of murder,” he said.
Before this development, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti had interrogated nine close relatives and aides of the late politician. One of the major red flags examined by detectives was an alleged transfer of ₦50 million from the deceased’s account, reportedly shared among some immediate family members.

Akingboye’s death on September 3 raised suspicion from the start. His body was found in the backyard of his Lagos home under unclear circumstances. His first son, Samuel Akingboye, who lives in Ondo State, immediately demanded a full investigation and informed the police of the irregularities surrounding the case.
Family members who spoke earlier expressed confidence that authorities would get to the truth, even as the story continued to develop with unexpected twists.
CP Jimoh assured that the case would be followed through to the end and that anyone linked to the politician’s death, regardless of status or relationship would face justice once the DPP gives the green light.
