The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Hon. Nyesom Wike, has called for an emergency meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC).

The announcement was contained in a notice issued on Monday by the factional National Secretary, Hon. Samuel Anyanwu, and shared on X by the media aide to the FCT minister, Mr Lere Olayinka.

According to the statement, the BoT meeting will hold at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, followed by the NEC meeting at 2:00 p.m. Both sessions are scheduled for the NEC Hall of the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

“Attendance is very important as crucial matters will be discussed and addressed,” the notice stated.

The emergency meetings come barely 48 hours after the PDP convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, where several high-ranking members—including Wike, Anyanwu, former National Legal Adviser Mr Kamaldeen Ajibade, former Ekiti State Governor Hon. Ayo Fayose, and others—were expelled over alleged anti-party activities.

The expulsion motion was moved by former PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Bode George, and seconded by the Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Mr Samaila Buga. It was later subjected to a voice vote by Governor Bala Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum. Delegates overwhelmingly supported the motion.

The unfolding situation has further widened divisions within the opposition party, with the Wike-aligned camp insisting that it remains a legitimate structure despite the Ibadan convention’s pronouncements.
