Tinubu Urges Education as Tool to Reduce Poverty, Highlights Youth-Focused Reforms

President Bola Tinubu stated that his administration’s economic and institutional reforms are designed to prepare Nigerian youths with globally competitive skills, asserting that education is central to reducing poverty.

Speaking with the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, at the State House, Abuja, Tinubu said the reforms are structured around demography and skills development, ensuring youth participation in national growth.

“We have a special education loan fund now that ensures no student is left behind. Our goal is to use education to drive down poverty,” the President said.

The President also highlighted infrastructure projects, including fibre optics rollout, alongside ongoing security and crime-reduction efforts, aimed at creating long-term synergy for youth empowerment.

Finance Minister Wale Edun briefed the meeting on the country’s median age of 17, noting that policies are deliberately structured to expand participation, skills, and growth opportunities for young Nigerians.

Prince Edward praised the reforms, highlighting their positive international reception and announced that 320 youths will be recognised at the upcoming Award events in Lagos, in partnership with the Lagos State Government.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award fosters non-formal education through schools, youth organisations, and community initiatives, building skills, resilience, and a spirit of service among participants.
