The Federal Government ( FG) has officially opened the application portal for the Student Venture Capital Grant, a national programme aimed at supporting student-driven innovations with equity-free funding of up to ₦50 million. The announcement was made in a statement signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, on Monday.
At the launch, Minister of Education Tunji Alausa described the initiative as a key part of the government’s innovation strategy. He said, “We are scouting for future Nigerian Unicorns whose roots will be planted right here in our universities and colleges. This is an equity-free seed investment in Nigeria’s future.”

The grant is open to students developing projects in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences (STEMM), with successful applicants gaining access to incubation, mentorship, and resources to scale their ventures.
To ensure rigorous evaluation, the Ministry partnered with Google, which will use Gemini AI to automate application assessments. Each applicant will receive a free one-year Gemini Pro licence and premium learning resources.
Applicants are advised to submit proposals demonstrating scalability, market relevance, and potential to address critical national or global challenges. Applications are now open at svcg.education.gov.ng for students in accredited tertiary institutions.
