The resolution highlighted the urgent need for national reconciliation and noted past government negotiations with agitating groups across Nigeria. It further stressed the growing support for Kanu’s release, citing domestic court decisions and international tribunal pronouncements favoring him. The lawmakers argued that discontinuing the prosecution and opening dialogue is necessary to restore stability, particularly in the Southeast region, which has experienced heightened insecurity since 2015.

Signed by notable legislators including Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, Hon. Obi Aguocha, Hon. Murphy Osaro, Hon. Peter Akpanke, Hon. Paul Nnamechi, Hon. Chike John Okafor, Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, Hon. Godwin Offiono, and Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, among others, the letter appeals for urgent action to avert further unrest. The lawmakers concluded by assuring the President of their respect and commitment to national unity.
