International pop star and US rapper, Nicki Minaj, has drawn global attention to the plight of Christians in Nigeria, alleging that many are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed due to religious persecution.
Minaj made the remarks during a high-level meeting at the United Nations (UN) headquarters on Tuesday, where she was invited by Mike Waltz, the US ambassador to the UN, for an in-depth discussion on religious freedom and global protection of faith communities.

According to her, the conversation aimed to examine what the US administration is doing to “defend Christians’ freedoms all over the world.”
Minaj expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for “prioritising this issue and pushing for international action to defend Christians in Nigeria, combat extremism, and bring a stop to violence against those who simply want to exercise their natural right to freedom of religion or belief.”
The multiple award-winning artiste lamented that Christian communities in Nigeria continue to suffer forced displacements, church burnings, and family separations.
> “In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed. Churches have been burned, families have been torn apart, and entire communities live in fear simply because of how they pray,” she said.
Minaj stressed that the campaign to protect Christians in Nigeria is not about division but unity.
“Protecting Christians in Nigeria is not about taking sides or dividing people. It is about uniting humanity,” she declared.
The performer further noted that religious violence, whether directed at Christians or Muslims, should be treated as an attack on the collective conscience of humanity.

“When one’s church, mosque, or place of worship is destroyed, everyone’s heart should break just a little bit,” she said.
She expressed optimism that the UN engagement would lead to stronger international solidarity and immediate global action to ensure that no individual lives in fear because of their faith.
“I hope it will encourage deepened solidarity for us to urgently work together to ensure every person can enjoy the right to believe, to worship, and to live in peace,” Minaj added.
The UN meeting underscored growing international concern over religious persecution in Nigeria, where extremist attacks, banditry, and communal violence have repeatedly targeted both Christian and Muslim worshippers.
