The Senate was plunged into mourning on Wednesday following the death of Senator Okey Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District. He reportedly passed away in the United Kingdom while undergoing medical treatment.

Senator Ezea, elected on the Labour Party platform, was the only LP lawmaker from Enugu State in the 10th National Assembly. News of his passing spread through the National Assembly early Wednesday, drawing emotional reactions from colleagues who described him as a humble, principled, and prayer-focused parliamentarian whose absence leaves a deep vacuum.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, said he received the news “with profound shock and deep sorrow,” calling the deceased “my dear brother and colleague.”

Kalu added, “His death is a painful blow that has left me personally devastated. Senator Ezea was more than a fellow legislator. He was a friend with whom I shared a close and sincere bond. Our friendship was built on mutual respect, brotherhood, and genuine affection.”

The former Abia governor also recalled the spiritual bond they shared through their Catholic faith, expressing condolences to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the people of Enugu State.

In her tribute, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central described Ezea as a gentle and wise colleague whose prayers strengthened her during difficult moments.

“You were a good man! Wise and gentle. Your prayers kept me going through my darkest moments, and I will miss you in chambers,” she wrote.

She extended condolences to Governor Peter Mbah, the Nsukka community, and the family of the late lawmaker, noting that both Kogi Central and Enugu North mourn together.
