Panic swept through the Idimu area of Lagos on Tuesday after a tragic Lagos electrocution incident during a chieftaincy celebration, where a truck motor boy died and three party guests were injured when a metal canopy frame touched a live cable while they attempted to clear the road along Anjorin Street in Idimu.
Residents said the celebration, organised for a community member newly honoured with a chieftaincy title had drawn a large crowd, with several canopies mounted across the street. Trouble started when a truck carrying sand attempted to pass but was blocked by one of the structures.

Witnesses recalled that some party guests, along with a truck occupant, tried to lift the canopy so the vehicle could navigate through. Unknown to them, an exposed electric wire lay close by, and the moment the canopy frame brushed the live cable, four people were instantly electrocuted.
An eyewitness, Femi Ajiboye, said the victims collapsed immediately as the current surged through the metal frame. He noted that the coronation festivities had been ongoing for a week before tragedy struck.
The motor boy was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital, while the three injured guests are receiving treatment. Residents said the deceased’s family later took his remains for burial.
