The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Victor Cletus, who allegedly posed as a medical doctor and manipulated a young woman he met on Snapchat into trusting him with a sensitive health concern.

According to the victim’s report, Cletus introduced himself as a surgeon at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilishan-Remo. His confidence and fabricated medical background convinced her to confide in him about a lump she had discovered in her right breast. Believing she was speaking to a genuine professional, she followed his instructions when he demanded an operation fee and arranged a meeting for a supposed surgical procedure.

However, the situation took a dark turn. Instead of offering any medical help, the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted her, took money from her Opay account, and continued to demand sexual access despite never conducting any medical examination or treatment. The young woman, overwhelmed by the deception and abuse, lodged a complaint that immediately triggered an investigation.

Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed that the suspect was discovered to be nothing more than a cleaner at the hospital, completely unqualified and with no medical training whatsoever. She described the ordeal as a clear case of exploitation, adding that the Command is committed to ensuring the suspect faces full prosecution.

Odutola also warned members of the public, especially young women about the growing number of online impostors who hide behind fake identities to trap and exploit unsuspecting victims. She urged caution on all social media platforms, noting that predators now use sophisticated deception to gain trust quickly.

Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, condemned the act, describing it as “heinous, manipulative, and exploitative.” He stressed that the Command will not tolerate any form of sexual violence, extortion, or impersonation, particularly when it involves vulnerable individuals seeking help.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, and police authorities say the case will serve as a warning to others who use false professional identities to deceive and harm innocent people.
