State Security Council orders tougher operations, warns against harmful social media reports
Security agencies in Kwara State have arrested a man from Makurdi, Benue State, alleged to be a key supplier of firearms to bandits operating across the state.
His arrest comes days after the violent attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area, which left the community in shock and security forces scrambling to track down the perpetrators.

Briefing journalists on Friday in Ilorin, the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, revealed that several other suspects believed to be supplying bandits with food, drugs, fuel and other essentials were also picked up during coordinated security operations.
Ojo spoke after the State Security Council meeting held at the Government House. He said the council was deeply concerned about how misinformation and reckless social media reports were undermining the country’s fight against insecurity.
He praised ongoing deployments by the military, the police and the DSS, noting that these reinforcements were in line with directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Commissioner also thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for deploying four tactical units to Kwara — including SWAT, the Intelligence Response Team and the Special Tactical Squads — to tackle emerging threats.
Providing updates on the Eruku incident, Ojo said:
“Security commanders briefed the council on recent developments, intelligence gathered, and efforts to track the attackers and rescue the victims.”

He confirmed that air operations have already flushed kidnappers from several hideouts, especially in Ifelodun Local Government Area, and called for continued aerial bombardments on identified criminal camps.
Ojo added that:
> “The Police and DSS have arrested several individuals linked to feeding and fueling these criminals, including a man who confessed to repairing weapons for the kidnappers.”
The council encouraged residents to remain vigilant, avoid late-night farming and social outings, and report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies and traditional leaders.
It also approved joint patrols across the state, particularly as the festive season approaches, and observed a minute’s silence in honour of victims of the Eruku church attack.
The council reiterated its commitment to restoring safety across all communities and supporting ongoing rescue operations for abducted victims.
