The Presidency has confirmed that the United States government will provide defence equipment, intelligence support, and other resources to strengthen Nigeria’s ongoing fight against terrorism and violent extremist groups.

The delegation was led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and included the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi; Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiandeye; and Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Speaking on Monday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, said the meetings helped correct misconceptions about Nigeria, emphasising that violent attacks affect communities across all religious and ethnic groups.

“The discussions forged a constructive, solution-driven partnership with the United States, reinforced mutual trust, and advanced a coordinated approach to protecting vulnerable communities, especially in the Middle Belt,” Onanuga said.
He added that the US will provide complementary humanitarian assistance and technical support to strengthen early-warning systems, while both countries agreed to implement a non-binding cooperation framework and establish a Joint Working Group to coordinate the agreed security measures.
Onanuga also reassured Nigerians that the Federal Government remains committed to protecting civilians and safeguarding religious freedoms amid ongoing security challenges.
