  • Newlywed groom found dead with a deep neck wound in Katsina home.
  • Wife, Zainab Muhammad, arrested as prime suspect in the killing.
  • Couple married only three days before the tragic incident.
  • Police say investigation is ongoing to uncover full motive.

The Katsina Police Command has taken into custody a woman identified as Zainab Muhammad, following the tragic killing of her husband, Abubakar Abdulkarim, popularly known as Dan Gaske. The couple had only tied the knot on Thursday, November 18, 2025, before the horrifying incident occurred on Sunday, November 23, in Tashar Buja, Jibia Local Government Area.

Residents said the groom was fast asleep when his wife allegedly attacked him with a knife, leaving him with a deep cut on his neck that proved fatal. His body was later discovered inside their home after neighbours raised concerns over Zainab’s unusual behaviour.

A relative of the deceased, Aminu Danladi, recounted that he and other family members had spent time with Abubakar on the morning of the tragedy. According to him, the groom had returned home to prepare for a planned family visit later that evening, plans that were cut short by his sudden death.

Danladi dismissed rumours that the marriage was forced, saying the couple had maintained a cordial relationship before tying the knot.

Sources added that Zainab, said to be in her 20s, was introduced to the groom by his nephew, who attended the same secondary school as her. She was reportedly previously married and divorced, information the groom’s family claimed they were unaware of.

Investigators believe the groom may have been killed sometime between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. After the incident, neighbours reported that Zainab appeared confused and went to ask for food, which immediately raised suspicion among older women in the area. When they followed her back home, they reportedly found the lifeless body of the groom lying in a pool of blood.

Police Spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, confirmed the tragic development, noting that detectives were deployed to the scene immediately after the report was made. He said the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced d3ad on arrival.

“One person is currently in custody in connection with the case, and investigation is ongoing,” he said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, has assured the public of a thorough and transparent investigation, urging anyone with useful information to assist the authorities.

The incident has sparked a wave of shock, anger, and speculation across Katsina and beyond, with many residents expressing disbelief over the sudden and violent end to a marriage that had barely begun.
