Fear has gripped Biresawa and surrounding communities after heavily armed bandits stormed the area between 11 p.m. and midnight on Monday, abducting two men and six women. Residents say the attackers operated confidently and disappeared without resistance from security forces.
A resident whose family members were taken, Kabiru Usman, said the assailants approached from neighbouring Tsundu village and moved on foot.

“They came on foot, armed with guns. They kidnapped my wife, Umma; my 17-year-old daughter, Fati; my brother’s wife; and two other women. We tried to stop them, but our weapons were no match,” he narrated.
Residents revealed that they had already alerted authorities after spotting unusual movement earlier in the day. Despite this, the attackers struck without interruption.
The raid didn’t stop at Biresawa. Villages such as Sarmawa, Yan Chibi and Gano were also hit in similar late-night attacks. A resident of Yan Chibi described how dozens of motorcycle-riding bandits stormed the community, firing shots into the air and whisking away several victims.
A local vigilante officer confirmed that residents had received a warning before the attacks and tried to prepare, but the bandits fled toward neighbouring Katsina State with their victims.
“Many families don’t sleep at home anymore,” he added, noting that the region has witnessed repeated attacks in recent weeks.

The Kano Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident and said investigations are already underway. He noted that the official number of abducted victims will be released after security verification.
The Kano attack is the latest in a string of high-profile abductions in northern Nigeria. Similar attacks have led to school closures and mass evacuations across several states. In Kebbi, Niger and Kwara, dozens of victims have been taken in the past week alone, prompting the Federal Government to deploy additional surveillance and military reinforcements.
President Bola Tinubu has ordered tighter air surveillance and increased presence of troops across vulnerable routes while security forces continue rescue operations.
