The Catholic Bishop of Kontagora, Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna, disclosed that a father identified as Anthony Musa, whose three children were kidnapped, died of a heart attack. He added that a second parent—a woman whose child was also abducted—had died, although the cause of her death has not yet been established.

Sources told LEADERSHIP that Musa passed away on Monday, while the woman died late Tuesday after she was rushed to hospital amid intense trauma following the abduction of her child.

“We do not have full details of the female parent’s death yet because we were unable to reach the family,” Bishop Yohanna stated in a brief update.

The tragedy follows last week’s attack on St. Mary Catholic School, where suspected bandits abducted 315 pupils, students and staff. Out of the total number taken, 50 escaped, while 265 remain in captivity.

The mass abduction has triggered widespread fear, anguish and anxiety among families in the region, heightening concerns over worsening insecurity and the safety of schoolchildren in the North.
