Security agencies deployed, following FCT Minister’s directive to intensify surveillance around Abuja borders.
Armed bandits have abducted six young girls and a 16-year-old boy during an overnight raid on Gidan-Bijimi, a community in Kawu ward of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The attack occurred near Marke village, along the FCT-Kaduna State boundary, according to Suleiman Shuaibu, a resident, who confirmed the incident in a phone interview on Thursday morning.

Shuaibu said the assailants, carrying AK-47 rifles, stormed two houses at about 9:47 p.m., firing shots into the air before taking the victims. The raid caused panic in the community, and local vigilantes who tried to confront the attackers were forced to retreat due to their superior firepower.

He noted that the abducted girls are between 17 and 23 years old, and residents have yet to establish contact with the kidnappers. Many villagers reportedly fled their homes following the attack.
Efforts to reach SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, were unsuccessful as of Thursday morning.
This incident follows instructions from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who directed security agencies to step up border surveillance around Abuja. A joint taskforce—including police, DSS, and military personnel—has been deployed across the capital to prevent such attacks.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, urged taskforce members to strengthen collaboration to curb criminal activities and highlighted that the Minister had provided logistics support to enhance security for residents.
