The attack comes amid heightened insecurity in Kogi State. On November 26, bandits reportedly stormed Kiri High School in Aiyetoro Kiri, Kabba Bunu Local Government Area, abducting students. Local vigilantes mobilized swiftly, rescuing all students, though one vigilante and a resident lost their lives during the confrontation.
The Osokoko–Obajana incident is part of a larger wave of mass kidnappings in Nigeria’s north-central region, with over 400 people, mostly schoolchildren, abducted since mid-November.
The situation has drawn condemnation from the United Nations and global religious leaders, underscoring urgent security challenges in the area.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the bus attack, but the military response has been credited with preventing further casualties and loss of property.
