Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), months after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and briefly aligning with the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The former FCT minister left the APC on March 10, 2025, after openly criticising the party’s leadership for abandoning its founding progressive ideology. He said the party had shown no willingness to address the “unhealthy situation” he had repeatedly raised for over two years.
Following his exit from the APC, El-Rufai joined the SDP, but in a letter dated November 26, 2025, he announced his resignation from the party.
He wrote:“I wish to notify that I have resigned my membership of the SDP, effective 26 November 2025. My focus remains on making my contributions to strengthening a unified democratic platform to offer a political alternative to the people of Nigeria.”
El-Rufai, who played a pivotal role in the 2013 merger that formed the APC, is now seen as a significant addition to the ADC as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
