The Bolowei of Niger Delta, Chief Tunde Smooth, has accepted the role of Father of the Day at the upcoming Ijaw Media Conference 2025.
The annual event, now in its second year and organised by the Ijaw Publishers Forum, will focus on the theme: “Safeguarding Niger Delta’s Natural Resources for Future Generations.”

Chief Smooth received the formal invitation on Tuesday when members of the forum’s Central Working Committee, led by Pastor Arex Akemotubo, visited him for a brief meeting.
Akemotubo explained that this year’s theme highlights concerns over growing pressures on the region’s land and waterways. The forum aims to raise public awareness, promote responsible reporting, and call on leaders to protect the Niger Delta’s heritage.

Acknowledging Chief Smooth’s longstanding contributions to cultural development and regional affairs, the delegation said he was the ideal candidate for the honour.
In response, Chief Smooth welcomed the committee, emphasising the importance of cooperation among community groups, professional bodies, and traditional institutions. He praised the forum’s efforts to use media to safeguard the region and pledged his full support for the conference.
He also appealed to stakeholders across the Ijaw nation to engage in initiatives that protect the environment and strengthen the region’s future.
