  • Ex-Governor Ganduje rejects Kano govt’s call for his arrest, calling it baseless and politically motivated.

  • Says Governor Yusuf is ignoring rising insecurity in Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa and other affected communities.

  • Denies any link to violence or militia formation, urging the governor to focus on protecting residents.

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and immediate past Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed the Kano State Government’s demand for his arrest, describing the call as unfounded, irresponsible, and a diversion from the real security issues confronting the state.

Ganduje made the comments in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu. He accused Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration of abandoning its duty to address escalating insecurity while resorting to political scapegoating.

“It is deeply unfortunate that rather than addressing the escalating insecurity ravaging the state, Governor Yusuf has chosen to chase shadows while searching for scapegoats to conceal his glaring failures,” the statement read.

Ganduje noted that communities across Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa and other areas have suffered repeated attacks, yet the governor has neither visited the affected residents nor shown empathy.

“His continued absence in moments that require leadership speaks volumes of his disconnect from the people he claims to serve,” he added.

The former governor stressed that he has never been associated with violence or any conduct capable of undermining peace and stability in Kano State. He argued that the allegations against him were politically motivated and intended to mislead the public.

He urged Governor Yusuf to focus on his constitutional responsibility of securing the lives and property of Kano residents rather than engaging in “political theatrics and issuing baseless claims.”

Recall that the Kano State Government had on Friday called for Ganduje’s immediate arrest, accusing him of making inciting statements and allegedly attempting to form an illegal militia group—claims the former governor has now firmly denied.
