Gunmen believed to be bandits have launched a deadly attack on Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, killing an elderly woman and kidnapping three residents.

The armed suspects stormed the community around midnight on Saturday, when most villagers were asleep. The sudden assault left residents terrified as the men moved from house to house.

Confirming the incident, the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the command had already deployed operatives to track down the criminals.

According to him: “We are doing everything possible to rescue the kidnapped victims and restore calm to the area.”

Witnesses said the gunmen rode into the village on motorcycles before parking at the outskirts. They then proceeded on foot to avoid early detection.

One resident, who pleaded anonymity, shared a heartbreaking account of the killing of the elderly woman.

“She begged them not to take her son,” he said. “They ignored her. They shot her and took the young man with them.”

The attackers also abducted two other women from another home, including a relative of the ward councillor.

As of the time of filing this report, security operatives were searching nearby forests to rescue the victims and apprehend the assailants.
