The Diocese confirmed the incident on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Diocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Isek Augustine, who disclosed that the priest was taken from his residence at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Rumi, around 11:30 pm.
“We regret to officially announce the abduction of our priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ezema,” the statement read.
The Diocese appealed for prayers, urging the faithful and the public to seek God’s intervention for the priest’s “safe and quick release,” along with others still held by abductors.
The Church also invoked the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, expressing confidence that the priest would “return to us safe and sound.”
Fr. Ezema’s abduction comes amid a renewed surge in insecurity across the country.
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently declared a state of emergency on security as cases of banditry, kidnapping and violent attacks continue to spread.
