In his resignation letter, Basko stated that the APC had become deeply divided at both the state and local levels, making it difficult for him to function effectively. He noted that several loyal members had been sidelined without consideration, adding that remaining in the party no longer aligned with his principles or the needs of his constituents.

“Persistent crises, internal divisions and poor leadership forced my decision,” he wrote. “Staying no longer reflects my political convictions or the interest of the people I represent.”

On his part, Dahiru said leaving the APC would allow him pursue a political direction that better reflects the expectations of his constituency. Moments after his resignation was confirmed, he formally defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara.

Both lawmakers thanked the APC for the opportunity to serve under the party, requesting that their letters be accepted as official notification of their exit.

Their departure adds to the growing wave of political realignments in Zamfara, signaling what could become a significant shift in the state’s party dynamics.
