Gumi says renewed nationwide attacks show signs of external support

• Notes security had improved on Abuja–Kaduna highway and farmlands

• Urges FG to strengthen intelligence, diplomacy, and probe foreign links

Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Gumi claimed that the pattern of recent attacks across the country suggests the involvement of external supporters aiding armed groups.

He argued that the current wave of violence contradicts earlier signs of improvement in national security.

Citing examples, the cleric noted that the Abuja–Kaduna highway, once considered one of the most dangerous routes in the country, had become significantly safer in recent months before the renewed attacks.

He added that farmers in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State — who previously abandoned their farmlands due to persistent threats — had slowly returned to farming activities, indicating that the region was stabilising before the latest surge in violence.

Gumi maintained that the sudden reversal raises “critical questions,” urging the Federal Government to intensify intelligence gathering, boost diplomatic efforts, and thoroughly investigate any foreign links that may be fuelling insecurity.
