Sahel Confederation orders maximum alert, condemns “sovereignty breach”
Burkina Faso says a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft carrying 11 military personnel violated its airspace and was intercepted before making an emergency landing in Bobo Dioulasso on Monday.
In a statement issued by junta leader Assimi Goita on behalf of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), authorities said the plane, which had two crew members and nine passengers on board, entered Burkinabe airspace without authorisation.

Burkina Faso disclosed that its security agencies immediately opened an investigation, which confirmed the aircraft had no clearance to fly over the country. The government condemned the incident as a serious breach of sovereignty and a violation of international aviation laws.
The AES leadership has now placed its aerial and anti-aircraft defence systems on maximum alert, warning that any further unauthorised aircraft entering the confederal territory could be “neutralised” in line with directives issued by Sahel heads of state.
The bloc said the measures are aimed at protecting its territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of populations across member states.
